Playing to the peak of their immaculate powers, Olivia Colman, Alexander Skarsgård, and Peter Dinklage bring grand charm, delight, and whimsy to this altogether unique and fantastical folk romance for the ages. Mocked by the eccentric, coupled townsfolk for her spinsterish manner, a fisherwoman (Colman) in this medieval world that is both wonderful and strange beseeches the local basket maker (Dinklage) to weave her a husband. He does, bringing to life the wicker man (Skarsgård) of her dreams, creating a cascading sensation throughout the village. Lushly designed, carefully crafted, and skillfully paced, this adaptation of Ursula Willis’s beguiling short story generated its own percolating buzz when it premiered at Sundance. Alex Huston Fischer
Alex Huston Fischer writes and directs, often in collaboration with his wife, Eleanor Wilson. Their debut feature, Save Yourselves! (2020), premiered at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival. Fischer’s previous 40-minute dance comedy Snowy Bing Bongs Across the North Star Combat Zone (2017), directed with Rachel Wolther, premiered at BAMcinemaFest before being picked up by Topic Studios.
Eleanor Wilson
Eleanor Wilson is a writer-director originally from South Australia. Her debut feature, Save Yourselves! (2020), written and directed with Alex Huston Fischer, premiered at the Sundance Film Festival. Her award-winning short films have screened at MoMA, Nitehawk Shorts Fest, and Sundance TV, among many other festivals.
