From Björk to Chloë Sevigny to Meredith Monk, the New York City-based fashion collective threeASFOUR has dressed some of the world’s most avant-garde fashionistas in singular looks that blend nature and technology. While some write off runway couture as frivolous or banal, the visionary minds at threeASFOUR know that the human body is an endlessly fascinating art medium—something they prove time and again with their prescient designs. But as s the film points out, there are “certain things that get attention, [and] certain things that sell,” and for a fashion collective that favors vision and collaboration over all else that can prove challenging, especially in a multibillion-dollar industry that demands profit and favors easy, trend-making replication. Directed by Sean Ono Lennon and co-directed by Brian Gonzalez, this behind-the-scenes doc follows threeASFOUR co-founders Gabi Asfour, Angela Donhauser, and Adi Gil over several years as they pursue creative freedom and work that inspires unity. —Kate Bove
