Alongside co-director Cassidy Friedman (Voices Beyond the Wall, Circles), visionary Bay Area poet, educator, and community activist Amber Allen-Peirson turns the camera on her own life in this deeply moving quest for belonging. A biracial woman living in Marin County, Allen-Peirson grapples with the complexities of her identity—of the nuances of living as a person with both Black and white roots in a nation founded on division. Using poetry to narrate a striking collage of archival footage and vérité moments from her present, Allen-Peirson deftly captures the ways in which she’s pulled in an overwhelming number of directions in her personal and professional lives. Torn between carrying on a legacy of fighting for what she believes in and simply trying to exist in an ever-demanding world, Allen-Peirson demonstrates that belonging can bloom through a life examined—in the pursuit of clarity. —Kate Bove
