The Illusion of an Everlasting Summer
Filmed over 25 years, this intimate documentary casts a tender and fearless eye over the lives of two inseparable cousins, Guillermina and Belinda, as they grow up in the rural Argentine Pampas. Celebrated photographer Alessandra Sanguinetti, in her prize-winning directorial debut, crafts a time capsule as fluid and heartrending as Boyhood and Seven Up! From carefree days playing dress-up and imagining vast futures, the girls mature before our eyes, dancing like no one is watching and ripening under the sun. In a blink, they tip into adulthood, effervescence fading under the weight of responsibility and narrowing options. Like a magic trick, though, their own daughters spring up to reclaim the joy of childhood as the camera keeps rolling. Alessandra Sanguinetti
Alessandra Sanguinetti is an Argentine American photographer and filmmaker. A Guggenheim Fellow, she has received a Hasselblad Grant, Sundance Grant, and a Rencontres d’Arles Discovery Award. Her monographs include On the Sixth Day, The Adventures of Guille and Belinda (vols 1 & 2), Some Say Ice, and Sorry Welcome. Her work has been collected and exhibited by MoMA, SFMOMA, MFA Houston, Museo de Bellas Artes Buenos Aires, and Fondation Cartier-Bresson. She has been a Magnum member since 2007. The Illusion of an Everlasting Summer (2026) is her first feature film.
