Pete Townshend: Behind Blue Eyes
After the wild success of The Who’s Tommy sent the band into the stratosphere, songwriter and guitarist Pete Townshend had a window to take the group even higher. Or thought he did. He conceived an even grander rock opera, a sci-fi story called Lifehouse. He wrote the songs, recorded demos, penned a film script, and secured financing for a movie, only to see it all fall apart. Nearly 60 years later, Lifehouse remains an obsession as Townshend relates in this insightful, energetic documentary that is both the story of the opera that wasn’t and a history of The Who. A wealth of concert footage and music video adds sonic flair while both new and archival interviews chart The Who’s changing fortunes. The most telling of these are the reminiscences of the now octogenarian Townshend and singer Roger Daltrey, who recall not just the band’s heyday and an aborted opera but the deep, abiding, battling friendships that made The Who what it was and kept it going for so many decades. —Pam Grady

Nigel Sinclair
Director/Producer Nigel Sinclair moved to Los Angeles from the United Kingdom in 1981 to open a branch office of a London law firm. Sinclair produced several feature films, including, notably, Sliding Doors (1998), The Quiet American (2002), End of Watch (2012), and The Woman in Black (2012). After producing No Direction Home: Bob Dylan in 2005, he developed an interest in documentary filmmaking, focusing on iconic subjects particularly in music, leading him to produce several music documentaries. Amazing Journey: The Story of The Who (2007) presaged the idea for a Pete Townshend film. Pete Townshend: Behind Blue Eyes (2026) is his directing debut.
Frank Marshall
Frank Marshall is a producer/director and one of the few people to have received an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony (EGOT). His film producing career is marked by five Academy Award® nominations and classic series like Indiana Jones, Jason Bourne, and Jurassic World. Marshall also directs, having helmed several successful films, including the Emmy winning The Bee Gees: How Can You Mend a Broken Heart (2020). He most recently produced Jurassic World: Rebirth (2025) and is currently directing documentaries about Fleetwood Mac and Barbra Streisand, with several Broadway projects and feature films in development.
