Isabel (Marina Person) knows wine, but she knows even better what she does not want: another day working for a demanding boss who treats wine as business rather than pleasure. Dreaming of opening her own natural wine bar, she begins navigating the unpredictable territory between desiring a different life and making it happen. Gabe Klinger finds humor, melancholy, and unexpected pleasures in Isabel's attempts to take control of her future, creating a warm and engaging portrait of a woman who keeps moving even when things don't go according to plan. Set in São Paulo's lively wine and restaurant scene, the city becomes an essential part of the story, captured on gorgeous, grainy 16mm film. Marina Person, who also collaborated on the screenplay, gives a wonderfully charismatic performance as Isabel, full of wit, determination, and humanity. With its great soundtrack, vibrant art direction, and love for life's imperfect pleasures, Isabel is an inviting toast to starting over. — João Federici
