Director Danny Boyle (Trainspotting MVFF19, Slumdog Millionaire MVFF31) returns in a hot-off-the-presses story charting the rise and fall of Sir Albert “Larry” Lamb, (in)famous Rupert Murdoch acolyte and creator of the titillating “Page 3” topless model feature that rocketed The Sun to British tabloid superstardom in the 1970s. The tale begins as Australian transplant Murdoch approaches Lamb, offering him a lucrative post as The Sun’s managing editor on the condition that he takes the paper in a new direction: bigger, louder. Agreeing, Lamb assembles a gang of frustrated writers and together, this “ship of undesirables” sets sail to overtake Fleet Street’s print industry with bluster, bravado, and plenty of boobs. Based on James Graham’s Tony Award-winning play and starring Claire Foy, Brian Gleeson, Guy Pearce (as Murdoch), and Jack O’Connell (Godless, Unbroken) as Lamb, Ink has the brisk pacing and spirit of the finest American meet-the-press movies, with a knowing wink to Orson Welles’ Citizen Kane. – KD Davis
