Ryûsuke Hamaguchi was born in Kanagawa, Japan, and completed his postgraduate degree in film at the Tokyo University of the Arts. His features include Happy Hour (2015), winner of a Locarno Film Festival Special Mention; Asako I & II (2018); Wheel of Fortune and Fantasy (2021), winner of Berlinale’s Jury Grand Prix Silver Berlin Bear; Drive My Car (2021), winner of three Cannes’ prizes and nominated for four Oscars®, winning for Best International Feature Film; and Evil Does Not Exist (2023), winner of five awards at the Venice Film Festival including the Silver Lion Grand Jury Prize.
